onto plan B!

Per the email I received from the program director, I will not be able to live on campus this year. I've stepped up my apartment/room search, and have found a few promising tracks leading me to having a home in AK. One in particular stands out...the email I got from this chick reads below;

"I have two bedrooms available the larger one with a bay window is $500 and the tiny one for $300; plus some utilities. The house is up on lazy mtn. outside of Palmer (10min) and overlooks the Mat-Su River, has lots of nature (moose, eagles, owls etc.), a couch swing and a hot tub outside. There is a full bath btwn the two rooms with a double sink, and laundry down that hall (that’s the only reason I go down that side of the house…) Of course you would have full access to the living, dining rooms and the kitchen. I have a lg flat screen TV with DTV (like cable but with HD and movies on demand) and there is high speed wi-fi in the house… Let me know if this sound like your “cup of tea”… Rose"

I emailed her back and we'll see where we go from here. Of course, my email just returned as undeliverable, saying that the email that she messaged me from doesn't exist. Sweet. Hopefully it's a glitch in the system and mine will get to her somehow.

Also, my plans for driving up and taking the ferry from Bellingham, WA to Whittier, AK have been put on the back burner...it seems that it's not a continuous trip, but rather staying in towns here and there throughout the trip north along the coast, making the whole thing about 12 days of being in and out of port (and no sleeping in your car on the boat; you have to leave your vehicle and find a hotel or something else in the port town.) Alyson, let me think a little bit more about the road trip prospect. If I do drive up, my car will be full and hopefully I will have someone to drive up with and fly home from Anchorage...so we'll see.

and I just realized that my house isn't packed up, and that I leave for the NPS next week Wednesday, leaving me less than a week to figure out all this crap. Awesome. At least on my days off from the island I can get internet at the Bayfield library, and I'll be able to keep up on stuff via cell as well (until it dies on the island, anyway.)

It's been a nice couple of days up here in Bayfield. I got an email a couple of days before the trip up saying that the training plans had been modified and that I'd have to stay through Thursday if I wanted to recertify in CPR and first aid. I think that my certifications are good through next year, so perhaps I'll bounce early. Today is our all-staff training day and I made a red Thai curry over rice for the potluck lunch. The weather is cool, cold at night and misty/foggy; very different than southwest MN right now! I look forward to getting some excellent sleep on my island for this part of the summer, buried under blankets as the cool Lake Superior breeze blows in through the windows.

WOW.... options, options. You seem to be keeping everything fun and hopeful, that's the way to be. There's no place else like Lake Superior. Stay careful and safe.. I feel good knowing you are so well trained. That housing arrangement in AK sure sounds inviting, I hope it works out. You know everything will... you've got the Karma thing going for you! Check out my blog too.
Love, Dad
